VIT or Vellore Institute of Technology ( A deemed university) is located 5-10 kms from Vellore a northen Tamil nandu city. Vellore is 3 km away from Katpadi a major railway junction with almost hundreds of trains passing by everyday. VIT is well connected to Chennai,Bangalore by both buses and trains. It is located 130 km from chennai on the busy NH4 (Chennai-Bangalore Higway) and roughly 300 km from bangalore. The nearest airport is chennai airport at Meenambakkam.
Vellore is also place to famous CMC – Christian Medical College started in early 1900 by christian missionary and which is very popular for its quality medical services. Every year thousands flock Vellore from North/Northeastern and even foreign countries for its relatively cheaper medical services.
Vellore is considered the driest and hottest of Tamil Nadu cities regulary notching up upto 45 C (degree celsius) in the months of April-May. VIT itself doesnt have any water scarcity thanks to its financial might. The area around VIT is still more rural and hence cost of living outside college is cheap, but most prefer to stay in VIT hostels which are ultra modern and known for its luxury.

When was VIT started ?
VIT was started in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by Viswanathan (current Chancellor and ex AIADMK Minister). It was started at the same time when many private engineering colleges started. But VIT became prominent in early 2000 thanks to the quality infrastructure and placement facilities. It attracts thousands from Andhra pradesh,Karnataka,Maharahtra and Tamil nadu competing for few seats every year.
VITEEE 2009 :
VIT conducts its entrance examinations from April every year. This year entrance examinations were conducted on April 18 2009 and the VITEEE 2009 results will be published on May 09 2009 (Saturday).

How good is VIT – Is VIT good?
Yes it is pretty good, as you can see by the competition to join the college. But it is one of the expensive colleges where regularly people pay lakhs of Rupees for seats. The Management has grown very rich with the money they get from payment seats. The placement facilities are very good as the the College has many agreements with top IT companies like TCS,Infosys,Wipro and more.
