Google magic behind Motorola’s next gen XPhone

Motorola has been a sub par device manufacturer,  due to the poor quality and poor UI, they have always been the also runners of the several markets.

But with Google’s acquisition a lifeline has been extended to Motorola. I personally was expecting Google would start pushing out new devices,  but overwhelming media response was that Google will spin-off the Hardware group  and just use the patents.

Luckily for us consumers it appears to be not the case, Google has deputed some of its senior product managers to lead the Motorola’s product division, and has put the focus back on innovation.

Google Nexus 4

Currently Motorola’s premier team under the guidance of former Google product manager Lior Ron (architect behind Google Maps)  is working on its breakthrough phone X Phone. They want to bring the next Iphone, something totally original and totally new.

With Google behind surely there will be something new, but even if Motorola comes out with a not so new but quality build and a clean android implementation , I will still take it.

Sony to buy LCD TV displays from Samsung and others

Here goes one more myth, the costlier the device better the quality.  I have heard from so many of my friends how Sony Displays are better than Samsung and others and despite the fact  both displays are manufactured together. But now after Sony has sold its stake in the joint venture S-LCD  with Samsung, the concept of Sony’s display is no more.

Sony was forced to sell its stake after many years of losses in its LCD TV business. The future looks bleak for Sony branded TV and Sony might just use the brand name while outsourcing  parts from South Korean neighbors like Samsung and LG.

From wiki : S-LCD, as of April 25 2008, operated with a monthly production capacity of 100,000 seventh-generation amorphous silicon (a-Si) panels and 50,000 eighth-generation panels based on PVA technology, which are integrated into both Samsung Electronics and Sony LCD televisions and mobile phones.

Apple announces Iphone 4S with improved camera and Processor

There was a lot of disappointment for fans and media outlets alike,   There were moments of brilliance during Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook’s keynote but overall the event fizzed out in the hardware segment.

For starters there is no iphone 5 yet, just a beefed up iphone 4S with A5 dual core processor and 8MP camera. Both these improvements were on expected lines to keep up with the competition.

The iphone 4S will be available in three variants of 16GB , 32GB and 64GB.  They will be available in both black and white from October 14  and preorders open on October 7. The pricing for the iPhone 4S 16GB is  $199 , 32GB – $299 and 64GB – $399. All with a two year contract.

Apple iphone 4 will have only 8GB and will be available for $99. And there will be no 16GB iphone 4 avialble in market. Meanwhile iphone 3GS will continue to be available and will be free with a 2 year contract.

All the above devices will run iOS 5, which brings some exciting features like Siri Voice control which was the highlight of the event.
