Laptop Processors comparison – Mar 2010

Yet again we are back to one of the popular qustion in the site.. which is the best laptop processor in terms of Price vs Performance. And also a look at the most popular notebook processors.

Below is the list of popular notebook processors and their rating in CPU Benchmarks.

Intel Pentium Dual Core T4300 – 1454
Intel Pentium Dual Core T4400 – 1514
Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 – 1578
Intel Core 2 Duo P7450 – 1576
Intel Core 2 Duo P8700  – 1803
Intel Core 2 Duo T9550 – 1900
Intel Core 2 Duo P8800 – 1914
Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 – 2001
Intel Core 2 Duo T9800 – 2198
Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 – 2329

With the increase in the numbers you can notice the performance numbers not moving significantly up, also for the price vs Performance ration T6600 is still the best bet. Also one should keep in mind that we have entered the post Core 2 Duo era, Intel lists all the core 2 Duo processors as retired versions but still 99% of the laptops are sold with either one of the above processors.

So whats after the core 2 Duo ? Core i3 , i5 and i7 and some high end models of Dell Studio XPS offer the Core i7 processors. The new processors definitely give a huge performance boost compared to the old C2D processors. Below is the two new kids on the block.

Intel Core i7-720QM Quad Core 1.6G (2.8GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
3274
Intel Core i7-820QM Quad Core 1.73G (3.06GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache)
3615

And you can clearly see the performance numbers skyrocketing with these i7 processors.

Windows Mobile 7 creating waves in the mobile community

Im not sure whats with Microsoft, It  could be the luck with version number 7 or Steve Ballmer suddenly found some secret Vault, all their recent products are getting positive reviews even from hardcore critics of Microsoft. After the success of Zune mediaplayer and Windows 7 now its the turn of Microsoft’s Mobile division to show off Windows Mobile 7 a completely rewritten code base and clutter free touch driven interface definitely promises something totally new.

Based on the limited look at the new OS through Developer Build Simulation and some videos, the Windows Mobile OS 7 looks to be driven by simplicity and a typical touch screen based Tiles interface from the Homescreen. No shadows, no unnecessary eye candy and only the intuitive access oriented design, afterall anything else is more annoying than anything. Microsoft has taken the best features from its Zune Media player and embedded in the new Mobile OS. All the applications appear to be completely redesigned (re written ?)  to fit the new OS.

Also Microsoft is going to set Minimum hardware requirements for the Mobile manufacturers so that any device running the WinMo 7 will be as zippy as the devices running competing platforms, If WinMo can make a impact as it appears it would, you can definitely expect a price war benefitting the consumer.

Apple had the advantage of writing iphone’s code from the scratch but the likes of Microsoft and Nokia, included  the touch functionality as an extra feature and it involved tweaking their original smartphone design which wasnt as flexible as the Iphone OS. But with Maemo Nokia is catching up and with Windows Mobile 7, Microsoft is expected to do the same.

Notion Ink shows its Ipad Competitor Adam

Notion Inc a India based start up run by an IIM alumni has revealed its Apple Ipad Competitor christened as Adam. The Ipad competitor definitely beats the much anticipated Apple Ipad hands down in terms of Technical Specification. Also the Adam is set to run Google’s Android.

Adam will run on a NVIDIA TEGRA 2 with a Dual Core Cortex A-9 processor, both will provide it huge advantage in terms of power consumption battery. Also the NVIDIA TEGRA supports full HD unlike the Ipad. It supports Multi Touch capabilities just like the Iphone and Ipad and supports A2DP Bluetooth Streaming, one better on the Apple version.

Adam also has a 3.2 MP Swivel Camera for Pictures and Video Chatting on popular IM’s. Adam will also have 2 USB ports , a HDMI port among other standard ports. Adam will also have a sim card slot with support for 3G calling and Data.

In terms of Software Notion Ink’s adam will also support full Flash browsing, the Adam was shown at the CES minus the custom UI.

With all the above mentioned extra’s the Adam is still expected to be priced lower than Apple Ipad.
