Sony Tablet S Review | Sony Tablet S vs Ipad 2 vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

Finally Sony has entered the Tablet market after Apple has sold over millions of iPads and after HP decided its time is over in hardware space. But Sony’s device seems to be a worthy addition to the mix, but will upset current trend is a big question. But it does bring a few new features to the table for customers.

Priced at $499 pits the Sony Tablet S directly against Apple ipad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. In terms of specifications it is nothing different from what is available in iPad2 and Galaxy Tab. But considering that the device is coming so late and by the time Sony Tablet S will be available in market, Apple iPad’s next revision (iPad 3 ) is expected to be available it seems a very much a below par device at this price.

But we have to agree that the Sony Tablet S has very good finish and rich 1280×800 resolution on 9.4 inch screen. The battery at 5000 mAh has lesser juice compared to Samsung’s 7000 mAh, but the hours of usage seems more or less equivalent to Samsung galaxy Tab 10.1 and iPad2.

In terms of new features, Sony has brought universal remote feature in the Tablet S and also integrated its PlayStation Network for Gaming. Also Sony brings its thousands of movies and Music to the tablet, which will be a tipping point for many. Other than that the device is yet another Android tablet.

Going by HP’s recent fire sale, one would have expected Sony to debut at a lower price than Apple and try to conquer the market, but it seems Sony wants to maintain its premium tag and want to compete as yet another also ran device.

DOJ throws wrench in ATT- TMobile Deal and drags ATT to court

United States Department of Justice moved to block the proposed ATT – TMobile USA merger, by filing a Antitrust suit. If completed the sale would have ensured there was only one GSM carrier left in US and virtually monopoly in GSM space and Duopoly in the Mobile Market (along with Verizon CDMA operator).

With already lower number of operators in the country, any move to further consolidate Mobile space would lead to higher prices and poor quality of Service. Currently ATT is No 2 operator behind Verizon and T-Mobile is No 4 behind Sprint.

DOJ Throws wrench in ATT-TMobile sale merger

Many MNVO s (mobile virtual network operator) along with Sprint had raised their concerns on the impact the Sale would have on them. ATT could have potentially killed MNVO’s with its new position and Sprint couldn’t have effectively competed against bigger rivals in ATT and Verizon.

FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski also commented that the Merger does raise several questions and shared similar views to that of DOJ.

Intel Core i5-480M vs i5-2410M Laptop processor comparison

Intel i5 series of Processes are placed between i3 and i7, Though Intel may call it mid range CPU,  For most day to day function this is a very powerful high end Processor series.  Compared to processors  two years back,  even i3 series is much more powerful, the i5 takes it a notch.

The second generation i5 processors based on Sandy Bridge Architecture. They bring some of advanced media features, like better media conversion performance, and a whole new concept of  Processor Graphics. With the newer i5, there is on Turbo Boost, which provides increased speed when needed for high processor intensive applications.

Media rendering at 3D and 1080p will be much smoother and Intel Wireless Display to 1080p screens are possible. Overall the i5 2410 is better than the i5-480 or i5-540/i5-560 etc. But is it worth the extra money ?

The answers are in the details, the newer processor improves the DDR3 support and also improves the overall processor performance even if the raw clock speed is less. So i5-2410M’s 2.30 GHZ is practically 30% faster than the i5-480M’s 2.67 GHZ. Same goes with the i5-560M and i5-580M processors.

Overall the Second generation i5 series offers more value and features than anything available in previous generation processors. Based on the cost, which is relatively equal always go for i5-2410M when you have a choice.

Below are the CPU benchmarks for popular i5 and i3 Series Mobile processors
