Bajaj introduced its newer and technologically inferior Pulsar 220 DTSi recently. And many would be wondering what are the differences between its previous model Pulsar 220 DTSFi and 2009 model. Here they are
1. Pulsar loses ‘F' – fuel injection this was touted to be an advanced ignition system, but its actual benefits in Pulsar was limited but it increased the price of the older DTSFi Model. So this is a welcome step as it cotributes to a huge reduction in price.
2. The new pulsar loses the Oil Cooled Engine and gets a Air cooled Engine, if you are travelling long distances oil cooled engines definitely help as they coolant takes care of heat thus avoiding engine damage, but with air cooled models and at high speeds you will need to chill for some time between long drives. So this is not a great move.
3. Engine has been tweaked a little for high speed ie More Raw Horse Power.
3. But the best part is the price of the Bajaj flagship model has been reduced to Rs 74,000 in the same range as Hero Hond Karizma, a whopping 15,000 Rs reduction in price ie 16% reduction in cost.
On the other hand the new pulsar still keeps the Front and Rear Disc Brakes, Tubeless tyres for safe driving which keeps the Pulsar 220 way ahead of the competition at current price. Lets wait and see if Hero Honda does something special to counter the new “Fastest indian”

The all new Pulsar 220 DTSi- has both Oil cooling and air cooling.
The Oil cool compartment is 33% bigger than that in DTSFi.
It even has a Venturi carborator, which is the largest in any Indian Bikes. It touches a speed of 145KM/h( Top speed). Has got disc brakes for both front (260mm) and rear (230 mm).
I have this Black beauty which i call as my Black pearl. Got it within 7 days, though the probiking people said that it will take 15 days.
I just love the pick up and the torque shows it magic even at speeds like 90 and 100km/h.

I had ride Pulsar 220 DTS-i and DTSF-i both but DTSF-i is far much better than the DTS-i model.
I agree, nothing feels better than riding the FI. You can really notice the difference between fuel injection and a carb engine when you ride one. But no offence here, the carb 220 is still faster but in my personal opinion, the fi ‘feels’ better.
The Fi is a piece of shit. It starts puffing and panting post 90 kmph. U guys must be feelin like losers coz the Fi is history. Even the front forks have a tendency to dive under hard braking in the Fi.
Both the bikes are same! They share every thing on the assembly line except for 3 major parts, they are carburetor, bike Cooling System and extra BHP (New bike – DTS-i). The reason behind Bajaj launching low tech carbureted engine is due to quality of fuel and cost factor. Fuel injection unit requires more efficient cooling system to operate properly but since fuel injection unit is now replaced with carburetor, it been down graded to now Air cooling. Both cooling system are good but one can feel the difference on very long and continues ride. Down grading cooling system has also resulted in cost reduction. There a marginal increase in BHP, by 0.83 compared to DTS-Fi’s 20 BHP. Thus resulting in increase in pickup and top speed. Comparatively BOTH are in the league of there own. Even on the money factor, they are better than current offering in 200+ segment. Though it is sad that Bajaj has discontinued the Fi model, could have had it as optional.
I own a 2008 Model DTS-fi and till date love the power and top speed performance.
dude… yor Dumb 200 DTsi is Smaller in Size compare toFI..think abt that.. from back view it looks same like pulsar 150 or 180/.. FI looks Like 220..thts the big differnce in looks…

There is a huge difference in mileage between Fi and Carb. The Fi can manage 38kmpl – 45kmpl easily not matter how rash you ride it. Whereas in carb the mileage would differ on how you ride it. It can go down to 25kmpl even!
